FTU Back To School Gimp Tutorial

For this tag, you'll want the FTU collab kits by Creative Scraps by Crys and Sweet Craving Scraps
You will want the FTU Circle mask pack by the awesome Creative Misfits
And the FTU tube I used is by Wednesday Law, her main website is http://www.eyeburst.net and the tube's (along with many other free tubes) available thru The Zone Groups

Let's get started...
1. Start with a new canvas, size it to 600 x 600. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY and color to alpha to make background transparent.
2. Open up as new layer paper7 from Crys's kit. Right click on this layer in layers box and scale to 600 x 600. Right click again and choose add alpha channel.
3. Open new layer mask- circle2 by Caroline. Scale to 426 x 426. Go to COLOR>INVERT then LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY and color to alpha. Then right click on this layer in layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION. Click on paper7 layer in layers box to make this the active layer. Then go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. The paper layer is now your mask. Delete original mask layer. Add noise to new paper mask layer- FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE with settings at 20/20/20/0
4. Open new layer paper6 from Kara's kit. Scale down to 500 x 500.
5. Open new layer frame5 from Crys's kit. Use the rotate tool to rotate it just a bit. Add a drop shadow by FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW and settings at 8/8/15. Now use the free form select tool to cut the paper, so it shows from behind. When you see the marching ants, go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR while paper6 layer is active.
6. Open new layer folder2 from Crys's kit. Scale to 160 x 185 and place accordingly. Add drop shadow with settings at 2/2/10... Repeat these steps with folder and folder 5.
7. Open new layer bow 2 from Kara's kit and scale to 114 x 74. Place accordingly and add drop shadow.
8. Open new layer wordart2 from Crys's kit and scale to 79 x 178. Use rotate tool to get placed appropriately. Add drop shadow.
9. I used a font called Kristen ITC Semi-Expanded for the name. I used a pale sky blue and then right clicked on that layer and chose alpha to selection. I added a new layer and filled that layer in with white. I also added a drop shadow...
10. Use your tube of choice. I scaled this one to 329 x 409 and added a drop shadow.
11. Do not forget the copyright information. Include copyright symbol, artist's name, website and for PTU art and some FTU art you must use a license number also. This tube does not require a license number tho.
12. Save your work as a .xcf so you can come back ion and make changes if you need to. Otherwise save as .png when satisfied.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial :) xoxox

Punk-A-Licious Cluster Frame Gimp Tutorial

For this tag, you will want to use the cluster frame I made using the kit called Punk-A-Licious by Crystal's Creations. It is offered on my blog, click HERE to go to that post.

The PTU kit will be found by following THIS LINK.

I used FTU mask #16 by Witchy's Heart and it can be found HERE.

The PTU tube is by the extremely talented Zlata M and can be found at PICS FOR DESIGN :)

Most Gimpers can do this...

1. Just open up the cluster frame and delete the top layer and bottom layer.

2. Open as layers element punkee3 from scrapkit and rotate 165 degrees. Move over to left side of frame so it's just poking out then duplicate this and flip the copy. Move the copy so they look even across the top. Merge these two layers then duplicate. Go to LAYERS>TRANSFORM>ROTATE 180 degrees then just move this copy into place on the bottom half of the frame. Merge them when they're all perfectly set. Keep this layer at the bottom of your layer box.

3. Open as layers paper10. Right click, ADD ALPHA CHANNEL. Right click and scale to 700 x 700.

4. Open as layers mask 16 from Witchy's Heart. Right click and scale to 800 x 800. Then go to LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Right click on this layer again in layers box and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION. Then click on paper10 layer in layers box to get that layer active. Go to SELECT>INVERT and then EDIT>CLEAR. The paper10 layer is now your mask, so go ahead and delete the original mask layer. Keep this layer above the layer we worked on in step 2.

5. Open as layers paper9 and right click and scale to 700 x 700. Then use the ellipse tool to make a circle that is in the black/starred area of the cluster frame. Go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Place this paper layer directly behing the cluster frame layer.

6. Open tube of choice. With this tube, I deleted the following layers- pants, finger, red hair, tattoo1, tattoo2, black nails, & red nails. I used the eraser tool to get the other green fingernail off. Merge the rest of the layers of the tube together. Then scale to 381 x 740. Place behind cluster frame. Duplicate this layer and put the copied layer directly above the cluster frame layer. While on the top layer, use the ellipse tool to crop around a good portion of the upper body, but trying not to get onto the flame part of the cluster frame. Then go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT CLEAR. Here is a photo to let you know what I am talking about...

7. Use the rectangle select tool to crop off the bottom portion of the tube on the original tube layer... Here is a pic to show you what I mean.

8. Add a drop shadow to the bottom tube layer by going to FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW and the settings at -8/-8/15.

9. Make sure to have the copyright information be legible- copyright symbol, artist's name and website should always be used when using someone's art, unless their TOU state otherwise. And make sure to include your license number if applicable (When you buy tubes, and you have to get a license, this means EVERYTIME you use art purchased from that site, that you MUST use your special license number). 99% of PTU tubes will require using a license number.

10. I used a font called THUG and I color picked the purple and green from cluster frame. Added RGB noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE levels at 20/20/20/0 Right click on this purple text layer, alpha to selection... SELECT>GROW by 3 and add a new layer, fill with white. Merge these 2 text layers together. Go to FILTERS>DECOR>BEVEL>thickness at 5. Then right click on this layer and alpha to selection... SELECT>GROW by 3 and add a new layer. Fill with green. Add noise to green text layer. Add a drop shadow with levels at 8/8/15.

11. Save your work as .xcf so you can come back in and make changes if need be... otherwise, when satisfied, save as .png and you're done! You got a kick ass tag!

Hope you liked this tutorial :) xoxox

Zindy's Dark Side Animated Forum Set Tutorial for Gimp

Here is a tutorial on how to make an animated forum set. Just the text is animated- it appears to sparkle or glitter. It isn't too hard to do, stay and see :)

I used the PTU kit called DARK SIDE OF EMO by Crystal's Creations, which you can get to HERE.

I used 2 FTU tubes by the talented Zindy Nielson, which you can find HERE along with an assortment of other products you're bound to like :) using her free tubes, you still must use a license number.

Let's get started on the banner.

1. Open a new image. Size 600 x 250. LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA to make background transparent.

2. Add a new layer. Right click and Alpha to Selection. Use fill tool and fill with black. SELECT>SHRINK by 6. EDIT>CLEAR. SELECT>NONE.

3. Add another new layer. Fill with a light grey color. Repeat all instructions in step #2 but shrink by 7 instead of 6. Add noise to this layer- FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE settings at 20/20/20/0 keep this layer below the black frame layer in layers box. Merge the black frame layer and this grey frame layer.

4. Open as new layer paper 9 in kit. Set this layer at bottom of layers box.

5. Open as new layer element 40 from kit. Set on bottom right corner... duplicate and flip the copy and place in upper left corner.

6. Open as new layer element 39 from kit. You may want to move it just a bit to have it set right where you like...

7. Use the text tool to create a new layer. I used the font called UNDECAPPED VINYL in size 75. I found a shade of greyish blue that I thought was good. Right click this layer and choose Alpha to Selection. Then add a new layer. Fill the new layer with black. Write your text of choice. We'll come back to this layer later to animate it. But if you don't want to animate it, you can just add noise to the layer now.

8. Open as a new layer element 10 in scrapkit and place it accordingly. Add drop shadow, FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROPSHADOW settings at 8/8/15

9. I used the tube PRETTY HURTS TOO and moved the opacity slider to 20. Place this behind the layer you made in step #6. The other tube is called JUST A LITTLE BLUE. Place it accordingly, and above the first layer you made in step 8.

10. Open as new layer element 30 from kit. Scale to 132 x 123 and add drop shadow.

11. Right click on the black and grey frame you made in step #3. Choose Alpha to Selection. Go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.

12. Add the copyright info to your tag. Copyright symbol, name of artist and artist's website, as well as any license numbers you may have.

13. Save your tag as a .xcf right now. That way if you mess up, you can come back and make changes again. If you choose to go on without the animation, you can save as .png but let's keep going and get that animated.

14. Scroll to the top of the layers box. Begin merging layers, one by one. You want to stop merging before you get to the text layer in step #7. Do not merge the greyish blue text layer. Click on the black text layer and keep merging down until you have 3 layers like the picture below.

Then duplicate each layer twice- so that there are 3 layers of each... A total of 9 layers in the layer box. Rearrange them so they are like the picture below.

Right click on the text layer. I start from the top- copy #2 and work down. Choose Alpha to Selection. Go to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE settings at 20/20/20/0. Keep the selection and click on the next text layer- #1 and go to FILTERS>REPEAT RGB NOISE. Click on the original text layer and FILTERS>REPEAT RGB NOISE. Then you can go to SELECT>NONE.

Now merge those layers again. Drop shadow copy#1 merge to text layer merged with Background copy#1 then repeat with drop shadow copy, text copy, background copy and repeat once more with drop shadow, text, background.

You will end up with 3 layers. Like pic below.

15. Right click on the first layer and then go to IMAGE>MODE>INDEXED. In the drop down, select Floyd-Steinberg (reduced color bleeding) and check the box that says Enable dithering.

16. Make sure that your background color is white. Then right click on each layer, selecting each time- REMOVE ALPHA CHANNEL.

17. FILE>SAVE AS filename.gif A box will come up. Choose SAVE AS ANIMATION. Hit EXPORT. If a box comes up and says to crop, go ahead and crop. Another box will come up. In this box you want LOOP FOREVER & USE DELAY ENTERED ABOVE FOR ALL FRAMES checked. And you will want 100 milliseconds and I DON'T CARE entered also. Hit save.

18. If you want to see what you have made, you can go to FILTERS>ANIMATION>PLAYBACK. If you don't have something right, if it doesn't run thru this animation smootly, you can go back and make changes. Sometimes it takes a few tries but you can do it.

For the avatar, you only have a couple changes to make.

1. Right click on the black/grey frame you made and scale to 200 x 200 (have to unchain). Place it over the left corner.

2. Scale element 30 to 65 x 61. Delete original drop shadow that was with it. Then add a new one.

3. Rotate element 10 then move it accordingly. Delete original drop shadow and add new one.

4. Size of initial is 157. Grow and fill just like in banner.

5. Erase any layers not showing in this area. Then Click on the frame layer to make it active. Then go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.

6. Save as a .xcf then repeat steps #14- #18 from making the banner.

Thanks for viewing this tutorial :) xoxox

FREEBIE Cluster Frame GOING DEEP & Tutorial

Here is a cluster frame I made with the PTU kit called GOING DEEP made by Wicked Princess Scraps which you can get to HERE and the tutorial is below... But first, this frame is for personal use only. Do not share, direct to blog to download... And if you download, please leave some love :) xoxox

If you want to make this tag, you will need the freebie cluster frame offered above.

I also used a paper from this fun kit, so grab the kit by following the link above also.

You will want the SPARKLE MASKS and the GRUNGE masks from Creative Misfits.

I used a FTU tube you can find here: http://www.xeracx.net/ but you can use any tube you prefer. The tubes in the Rac store all must be used with a license number ONLY.

Let's start...

1. Open a new canvas. I usually start with 800 x 800 to be on the safe side. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA to make background transparent.

2. Open as new layer the cluster frame. Delete background and credit layers.

3. Open as new layer paper 2 from scrapkit. Right click ADD ALPHA CHANNEL. This is going to be our mask, but we have a couple swteps to do to get it that way.

4. Open grunge mask 5 by Rose and go to COLOR>INVERT and LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA. Scale to 650 x 650. Right click ALPHA TO SELECTION. Then up to SELECT>INVERT and click on the paper layer in layers box to make it active & back up to EDIT>CLEAR. Now that your mask is the paper... delete the original mask. Duplicate this paper mask layer so you have a total of 4 layers. Move it into placement.

5. Open as new layer from sparkle masks Mythmask6. Repeat first 3 instructions in step #4. Then go to COLOR>COLORIZE and find a nice cute sandy hue and click ok. Add noise by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE settings at 20/20/20/0 then set this in position, above the mask layer.

6. Open tube of choice. I scaled this one down a bit... Then use the free form select tool to cut out the bottom part. When selected, hit EDIT>CLEAR. Add drop shadow- FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 8/8/15 then redo another drop shadow but change the settings to -4/-4/15.

7. Add your copyright info- symbol, artist's name and website, with license number if applicable.

8. I used a font called LMS SHE SHELLS size 60 in black. Add a new transparent layer under this text layer in layers box. Right click on black text layer ALPHA TO SELECTION, then go up to SELECT>GROW by 3. Click on new layer to make active then use bucket fill tool and fill with a sandy hue. Add noise, same like you did in step #5.

9. Add a drop shadow to the sandy shade text layer, settings at 8/8/15 and also add to the cluster frame layer.

10. Use the rectangle select tool to crop your tag. When selected, go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.

11. Save as a .xcf so you may come back and make alterations if needed. Save as a .png when you're satisfied with your result.

Thanks for viewing! Hope you likey LOL ;-)
